What makes South Tampa different

South Tampa homes are some of the most rewarding in Tampa Bay to light, and some of the most demanding. Century-old bungalows in Hyde Park, Mediterranean revivals off Bayshore, and modern waterfront builds on Davis Islands each need a different approach. A design that flatters a low-pitched historic roofline will look wrong on a two-story stucco façade.

The tree canopy is the biggest factor. Grand oaks along Bayshore and through Palma Ceia mean a roofline alone often disappears from the street — the display has to work with the canopy, not under it. Palms respond beautifully to warm-white wrapping and read as high-end from a block away.

Historic homes bring their own constraints. Many Hyde Park properties have original soffits, tile roofs, and detail work that can't take standard clips. Every attachment is chosen for the surface it's going on — no nails, no staples, nothing that leaves a mark.

Waterfront exposure on Davis Islands and Beach Park means salt air and steady wind. That's why displays use commercial-grade LEDs and outdoor-rated connections rather than retail strands, and why mid-season maintenance is included rather than sold as an add-on.

South Tampa questions

Asked by neighbors

When should South Tampa homeowners book?

August or September. Installations begin October, and South Tampa fills earliest in the season because of the concentration of homes we design for there.

Can you light a historic Hyde Park home without damaging it?

Yes. Attachment methods are matched to the surface — tile, slate, original soffits, and copper gutters each get a different approach, and nothing that leaves a hole is ever used.

Do you wrap the oaks and palms?

Yes, and in South Tampa it's usually the difference between a nice display and a memorable one. Under the Bayshore and Palma Ceia canopy, tree lighting is often more visible from the street than roofline lighting alone.
